4PeteSake was created in 2005 by a community of people to give something of themselves to someone in need. It was inspired by a young man who was its first beneficiary, Peter Greenwood. At 20 years of age, Peter is a bone cancer survivor and an above the knee amputee.
In addition to the leg the 4Petesake committee bought him we also purchased a hand bike for him. He has subsequently become a VERY competitive athlete in just the one year he has been physically able to race. He has raced in Chicago, NYC, Madison and LA and has finished in the top 25 in all of the events (finishing in the top 5 in LA and 1st in Madison) --- it has virtually changed his life.
So thank you all for your generosity and support.
In honor of Peter's amazing determination and strength we have continued the organization, 4Petesake, (which is tax exempt) and have committed ourselves to raise money for one or more individuals every year. We like to call it "concentrated-high-impact-giving" - meaning that the money raised can in effect, change that person's life -- but it also has a wide reaching benefit which the immeasurable amount of INSPIRATION the recipients give to those of us who support them financially - personally I am continually looking for my "mentors of grace" -- those who give me hope that if and when I am faced with similar circumstances in my life that I may handle them with the courage and grace I have seen displayed by Peter.
If you feel moved to help, the 4Petesake committee would be very grateful for any amount of money you could afford to give (checks made out to Christ Lutheran Church - PO Box 236 Spring Green WI 53588) or if you would like to buy raffle tickets please feel free to contact me directly by this email. Or join us on August 20th in Spring Green for our Race/ Live Music / Auction ... Food, beer... event....
We PROMISE it will be put to use. As our motto says," When you see a need, fill it."
Or as my mother used to say, when I was feeling particularly self pitying “Oh, for Pete’s sake, you know exactly what you need to do…so do it.”
And that’s what we hope to do.
