4PeteSake Grant Recipient #6 is Mary Hutnik who lives in Spring Green and is the mother of two small children, Madeline, age 4 and Leopold, age 7. Mary’s husband, Brad, is a Lower Wisconsin Riverway Forester at Tower Hill State Park. Last fall, Mary underwent two surgeries for breast cancer and has recently completed both chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Her prognosis is good, she says, because “I caught it early, thanks to a mammography. I want to remind women how important it is to get an annual mammography. I don’t know what would have happened if I had not gotten mine when I did.” Mary was a librarian at the Mazomanie Library for five years and now works in Madison for the Department of Public Instruction. She worked through January when a health crisis following surgeries forced her to take a leave of absence. She recently resumed her part time position there. * This story is from The Voice of the River Valley.
